Hello, I’m Ellie.
Stories are at the heart of everything I do
My mum says I dictated stories to her before I could hold a pen. Twenty-odd years later I'm still at it: journalist, magazine editor and brand consultant, based in Hackney, made in Devon. I write for The Times, The Telegraph, The Guardian and Condé Nast Traveller, and in 2024 I won AITO Travel Writer of the Year for an essay about the strangest, best thing I've ever done – having a baby with my gay best friend. And his partner.
Stories make a difference to the world
The brand work grew out of the journalism. Brands kept asking whether I could make their websites, magazines and reports sound less like brands and more like people, and it turns out I can. I write tone of voice guides, edit customer magazines and consult on editorial strategy. When a job needs more hands than mine, I bring in a team through Content Collective, my production company.
Stories will take you places
The rest of life: a son called Sid, a house on the fringes of Hackney, winters plotted around the Philippines, where Sid's dad is from. I'm writing a TV show with my writing partner Glyn, and I still dream about the novel. Stories, basically. They're the whole thing.
In brief
I'm a journalist, editor and brand consultant in Hackney, London.
“Ellie always writes in colour. I love her ability to bring stories to life. ”
